Austin Receives Top Grade by Small Business Owners

Austin Texas is the best city to start a business in!!!  In a recent business survey conducted by Thumbtack.com and Kauffman Foundation, small business owners rated Austin the top small business-friendly city nationwide.  Seven thousand small business owners nationwide participated in the survey.   Following are the categories Austin was rated on and the grade it was given: Overall friendliness – A+ Ease of starting a business – A+ Ease of hiring – A Regulations – A Health & safety – A Employment, labor & hiring – A Tax Code – A Licensing – A Environmental – A Zoning – B+ Training – A+


Austin was ranked the second easiest city in which you can start a business.  Sander Daniels, co-founder of Thumbtack.com said, “After its strong performance in last year’s study and thanks to innovative programs like Elevate Austin, it comes as no surprise that Austin was the top ranked city this year.  Austin has done a stellar job of fostering entrepreneurship.” Dane Stangler, director of Research and Policy at Kaufman Foundation said, “It is critical to the economic health of every city and state to create an entrepreneur-friendly environment.  Policymakers put themselves in the best position to encourage sustainable growth and long-term prosperity by listening to the voices of small business owners themselves.” Here’s what a few Austin business owners had to say. A test prep instructor said, “Texas has a fairly laissez-faire business environment.  The state lets companies come and go (more or less) as they please, without restrictions on size and revenue generation.  Working in Austin, I’ve found that the community is very supportive.” A photographer said, “Austin is more progressive and supportive of small business owners than the rest of the state of Texas.” A makeup artist said, “The Small Business Administration as well as SCORE are valuable entities in the state of Texas.” A general contractor said, “Lack of licensing and insurance requirements make Texas very friendly to small business.” A food and beverage provider said, “It is very easy to start a business in Austin, Texas.  There are all kinds of helpful resources to assist you.” A painter said, “The locality where our business resides is a very competitive market.  Small business development is available, and we participate in local meetings.” Additionally, the state of Texas received an A from small businesses for being business-friendly.  Four cities in Texas were ranked high:  Austin 1, Houston 3, San Antonio 5, and Dallas-Ft. Worth 7.  Texas also ranked seventh in the nation for providing quality online business resources.
