Employee Expectations from a Property Management Firm

{{ post.title }}
There have been plenty of surveys and reports that focus on what landlords and tenants want from a property management firm. The answers are always similar: trust, responsiveness, reliability and the like. But what about the employees of a property management company? What are their expectations? They are also a very important group of people and should be given some consideration. After all, it is because of the employees and their efforts that a property management company achieves success. The same was the topic of a recent survey.

The Team Outlook

The most basic thing that employees of a property management company want from their employers is Opportunity, Trust and Teamwork, often referred to as OTT.  A lot of people believe that more income and a higher salary are motivating factors but the results of the survey state otherwise. Money may be fairly important, but there are other things that have a higher slot on the priority list. Here are the topmost factors that can motivate PM employees.
    • Learning opportunities
    • Decision making authority
    • Trust and confidence from the management
    • Team work
    • Recognition of efforts
Along with this, the survey also highlighted factors that de-motivate employees and they fail to accomplish their tasks and jobs. Here are the topmost of these.
    • Improper ways of addressing issues
    • Budget limitations
    • Paperwork requirements
    • Inconsistent requirements
What the Employers Should Do?

As a manager of a property management firm, you really need to keep your employees motivated and cater to their needs. Only then will the engagement levels be high and you will get better performance out of them.

There are three main practices that can ensure your employees remain motivated and perform well. Try them out and you will enjoy the results.

Educate your employees

As seen above, the most motivating factor is learning opportunities. Yes, you need to make an investment for this, but it will help your company in the long run. Educate your staff through in-house training or online programs.

Trust your employees

Every employee in your company must have impressed you at the interview and prompted you to hire them. Whether this was because of their attitude, their experience or their skills; trust them and let them do their job.

Provide tools to your employees

Until your employees know exactly what they have to do and have access to all required tools, they can never perform above par.
